Daniel McAdams and the Ron Paul Institute: Communist and Russian Connections

Who is Daniel McAdams and what does he have to do with the Russian and communist information warfare being conducted against Americans?

According to the Free Press Journal (which accessed his Linkedin profile), McAdams graduated with a BA in English from the University of California, Berkley.1 He worked as a journalist from 1993-1999 in Budapest, Hungary and travelled through the former communist bloc as a human rights monitor and election observer. His Russian state controlled media profile says that he “also served as special rapporteur for the British Helsinki Human Rights Group [BHHRG] while based in Europe.”2

One of BHHRG’s trustee’s was John Laughland who is an associate of McAdams.3 BHHRG defended such people as as Slobodan Milosevic of Serbia, Alexander Lukashenka of Belarus and Viktor Yanukovich of Ukraine.4

McAdams and Laughland are also connected via the Center for the Study of Interventionism where McAdams was listed as the Washington, DC associate and Laughland as an advisor to the Center.5

Laughland was also connected to the Institute for Democracy and Cooperation which was founded by the Russian Government.6 The Moscow Branch was headed by Anatoly Kucherena a lawyer who sat on a Russian Federal Security Service oversight board.7 The Paris branch was run by Natalia Narochnitskaya who was described by British journalist Catherine Belton as being close to both Vladimir Yakunin (a former KGB general) and a “protégée of the spymaster Yevgeny Primakov at the Institute for World Economy in Moscow during the time of the perestroika reforms.”8‘9 Laughland was listed as Director of Studies at the Paris branch.10 Probably because of his connection to Narochnitskaya, Laughland has appeared at the World Public Forum-Dialogue of Civilizations forum in Rhodes.11 That ecosystem connects to Russian attempts to infiltrate the Christian right and to people like Konstantin Malofeev, Vladimir Yakunin and Aleksandr Dugin the latter given an interview by another group Laughland was a part of called the Forum for Democracy International founded by pro-Putin Thierry Baudet.12

Circling back to McAdams, he is listed as a fellow of what has basically been described as a fake university run by Ed Lozansky.13‘14 The University is called American University in Moscow. What is interesting about the University fellows list is that many appear on the Ron Paul Institute (RPI) website which McAdams is director of as well as on the Strategic Culture Foundation (SCF).

It was in August of 2020 that the U.S. Department of State’s Global Engagement Center (GEC) informed U.S. citizens that SCF is registered in Russia, based out of Moscow and controlled by Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR).15 The president of SCF at the time of the GEC’s report was a former Communist Moscow Party Chief and Politburo member Yuri Prokofiev. Furthermore, on April 15, 2021 the United States Department of the Treasury Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) designated per Trump’s executive order 13848 SCF for “propagating Russian intelligence services-directed content.”16 Specifically, OFAC stated it was the SVR’s Directorate of Active Measures (MS) that tasks SCF.

The people on the American University in Moscow fellows list that show up on both the the SCF website and the RPI website are: Matthew Ehret,17‘18‘19 Patrick Armstrong,20‘21 Dmitry Babich,22‘23 Robert Bridge,24‘25 James George Jatras,26‘27 Ed Lozansky28‘29 and Martin Sieff.30‘31 Those that only show up on the SCF website are Anatoly Karlin,32 Tim Kirby33 and Vladimir Kozin.34

It should be noted at this point the Ed Lozansky was an associate of Russian intelligence head Primakov, and he is also an associate of Aleksandr Dugin and Julian Assange associate Israel Shamir.35 Furthermore, Lozansky used Matt Ehret to produce a script for a propaganda film called “The Other America” which retired Lieutenant General Flynn promoted on Twitter, and it featured Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity member and InfoWars guest Ray McGovern.

Again, coming back to McAdams he came to be director of the RPI, because he was previously a staffer for Ron Paul. The RPI was later established in April 2013. Somewhere between his travels in the former communist bloc to 2013, he got in touch with the SCF.36 This was proven to me by X user eyepatch_man who sent me a screenshot of one of the first articles published by the Ron Paul Institute under McAdams who was recommending his readers go over to SCF and read an article by a retired Russian colonel named Andrei Akulov on April 16, 2013. Without a doubt, the Ron Paul Institute in its founding was collaborating with a SVR controlled organization. Over the next few years, Daniel McAdams and RPI would reprint many SCF authors’ articles even after the SVR and SCF came under U.S. Treasury sanctions.37

The U.S. State Department reported on SCF’s partnerships with other organizations that produce articles for public consumption, like GlobalResearch; however, it has not mentioned RPI which in my view is in a de facto partner status with SCF as evidenced by the many years it has run its articles, that is, active measures against the American public. Perhaps, if this Russian/communist association (the SCF president is a former communist Politburo member) was a one-off, we might overlook this as an oversight by McAdams; however, this was not his only connection to hostile powers of the United States.

McAdams is a contributor to RT which is a Russian state funded network that traces its roots back to the Soviet Information Bureau.38RT, Like the FSB or SVR changed its name; however, its anti-western agitprop continued despite the “collapse of the Soviet Union” and the corresponding disappearance of communism in Russia.

Recently the Department of Justice busted a bot farm of nearly 1,000 X accounts that were operated by a private intelligence organization directed by an FSB officer.39The technology for the bot farm was developed by a high level RT employee and the bot farm operators consisted in part of RT employees. Their operations were targeting the West with agitprop or what we call disinformation.

There’s more. McAdams is also a member of Unity4Julian a mostly anti-Western group.40 It includes people like Daniel Ellsberg (Pentagon Papers), Cassandra Fairbank (fmr. Sputnik employee) Slavoj Zizek (communist), Peter Levelle (RT employee), Ray McGovern (featured in propaganda films written by SCF authors and commissioned by Ed Lozansky), etc. Julian Assange cooperated via his Wikileaks organization with Russian Military Intelligence (Guccifer 2.0),41and he employed Israel Shamir who writes for the Unz Review and is an associate of Aleksandr Dugin (a man that wants to destroy the United States).42

The connections continue. McAdams, again pointed out to me by X user eyepatch_man, owned a website called the Daily Putin.43 He is featured on Infowars.44 He contributes to a Eurasian geopolitical journal called Eurasia Review,11 and his articles are also featured on Global Research,45 an organization that has been documented to reprint Russian Military Intelligence authors and has been and is in partnership with Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) tasked South Front and Russian Foreign Intelligence (SVR) controlled SCF.46 McAdams was also a speaker at the anti war rally called Rage Against the Machine which was co-sponsored by the Libertarian Party and the Movement for a People’s Party.47 The latter Danny glover is associated with who is also a trustee at the Institute for Policy Studies a group that helped build a communist run transnational institute.48‘49 The event McAdams spoke at had communist speakers such as Jackson Hinkle.50

Lastly, I will mention that Daniel McAdams has boozed with Ricardo Alarcón,51who at one time was the third most senior communist leader in Cuba.52Therefore, given the information presented in this short article, it is reasonable to conclude that Daniel McAdams is an agent of foreign influence working against the interests of the United States of America.
