Geopolitics & Empire: Connections to Maoists, Marxists, Communists, Agents of Russian Influence and Russian Intelligence Front Organization Connected Individuals; Part I

Introduction

In the course of conducting anti-communist research on organizations the U.S. State Department, U.S. Treasury, CIA, FBI and other U.S. organizations had identified as connected to Russian intelligence, I came across Hrvoje Morić’s Geopolitics & Empire Rumble page (note: Hrvoje is not listed by any of the government agencies I mentioned that I know of). I subsequently performed a cursory review of his Rumble page and his website, and what I found produced multiple red flags in my mind. I saw Russian Foreign Intelligence (SVR) tasked Strategic Culture Foundation (SCF) authors. I saw known agents of influence for Russia connected to active measures. I saw socialists, Marxists, Maoists, communists, individuals connected to Aleksandr Dugin among other people and connections of concern. Despite all these red flags, even at the time of writing this article, I am giving Hrvoje Morić the benefit of the doubt. I have not called him a Marxist, communist, Russian asset or agent of Russian influence.

After performing the aforementioned cursory review of Morić’s ecosystem, I posted on X saying, “Someone should look into Hrvoje Morić as well as Asia Times,” and I linked to the websites of each while including a photo of Morić along with the communist USSR President Gorbachev that I found on his website.1

My call to action was most appropriate given the rich, pro-Russian and pro-communist ecosystem Morić finds himself in. Afterall, I am a American anti-communist, civilian counterintelligence researcher, and I go where I find the communists and suspected Russian intelligence assets.

My next X post was then directed at Morić. I was genuinely asking him what his deal was and this prompted a defensive response from Morić which is understandable from his perspective. I reproduce that response below along with my reply to him.2

This article, which will take the form of a multiple part series exploring some of the guests of Geopolitics & Empire, is intended as my first long form response to Hrvoje which I suggested we both do. That is, I said I will post my response to him in the form of an article and from there, should he decide to respond to me, I will post a link to his response in my article. Also, I will link to future responses of Hrvoje to my forthcoming updates in this series (assuming I get around to producing a part two and additional parts) should he decide to reply to those as well.

Let’s now look at some basic background on Morić in his own words.

About the Founder of Geopolitics & Empire Hrvoje Morić

Quoting from Morić’s website:3

The host and producer of The Geopolitics & Empire Podcast, Hrvoje Morić, hails from the United States. He was bred between the two worlds of America and his ethnic homeland of Yugoslavia/Croatia, moving back and forth between the two countries. His name literally means “Croat”. He is also a naturalized Mexican, fluent in English/Croato-Serbian/Spanish, and truly a proud citizen of all three nations!

He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in History and Secondary Education from Northeastern Illinois University in the U.S.

About the Geopolitics & Empire Podcast

Quoting again from Morić’s website:4

The Geopolitics & Empire Podcast conducts interviews with prominent international experts on a wide-range of topics.

Past guests have included diplomats, government officials, whistleblowers, soldiers, spies, economists, academics, scientists, wealthy investors, dissidents, journalists, and musicians.

The broadcast seeks to gain insight from guests who come from the left, right, and beyond. It should go without saying that the host does not always agree with beliefs espoused by podcast invitees, but maintains an open mind, and believes it important to respectfully listen to a multitude of voices and let listeners come to their own conclusions.

Morić is wise to add the disclaimer in the last paragraph above. Such a disclaimer can be genuine or dishonest. As I previously mentioned, I am giving Morić the benefit of the doubt and assume that it is genuine. A dishonest use of it would mean that he is pretending to be balanced with his guests, bringing on a handful of examples to showcase his balance, while in reality he is essentially conducting an active measures campaign against primarily English speaking audiences by having individuals on that are Marxists, Maoist, socialists, communists and Russian assets to spread disinformation to his English speaking audience.

Before jumping into an exploration of the guests on Geopolitics and Empire that set off alarm bells in my mind, let’s take a further look at Morić’s website.

An earlier version of his website called Guadalajara Geopolitics listed as analysts many troubling individuals and groups that are part of the Marxist, crypto-communist, pro-Russian and Russian intelligence connected ecosystem as can be viewed in the images below.

Keep these people and groups in mind, because most of them will be discussed in this series, and it is an important reference of the early influence on Morić which we can generally say is anti-Western as the lowest common denominator.

Another important reference is that Ron Unz was listed as a past sponsor of Geopolitics and Empire.5 This shows extremely poor judgement by Morić to let Ron sponsor him. Ron’s national security editor is Philip Giraldi and Giraldi received $74,000 from Ron’s foundation.6‘7 What is troubling about Giraldi is that he attended the now U.S. sanctioned Iranian intelligence recruiting event in Tehran called the New Horizon Conference with other anti-Western guests including Aleksandr Dugin who seeks to destabilize the United States and then geopolitically destroy it.8‘9‘10 Giraldi is also a contributor for the Moscow based, communist run and Russian Foreign Intelligence tasked Strategic Culture Foundation.11‘12

Ron Unz also gave $75,000 to self described communist Norman Finkelstein who was also hosted by the New Horizon Conference.13‘14‘15 The leftist run Counterpunch (formerly co-edited by Marxist Alexander Cockburn), received $80,000 from Unz.16 Paul Craig Roberts, Russian foreign Intelligence directed Strategic Culture Foundation contributor and featured author on Aleksandr Dugin’s U.S. sanctioned Geopolitica, received $108,000 from Unz’s foundation.17‘18‘19 Alison Weir, founder of If Americans Knew, is also someone Unz features on his website; Weir was also a participant at the New Horizon Conference.20 ‘21

More data points showing what Ron Unz is about are the contributors to his website. People like neo-Nazi Andrew Anglin who was influenced by Alex Jones as well as Hitler.22 There is also Erik Striker, who was in a shield formation a Charlottesville and also wrote for Russia-Insider (owned by Charles Bausman an Alex Jones associate and someone who was inside the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021 and subsequently fled to Russia for safety).23 There’s also Aleksandr Dugin’s associate Israel Shamir someone that worked with Julian Assange.24‘25

We must ask ourselves, why would Ron Unz sponsor Morić’s Geopolitics and Empire? Most if not all the people Unz sponsors are anti-West and there are a few that are connected to Russian intelligence front organizations. What does that say about Morić?

We will now look at some of the guests of Geopolitics and Empire.

Troubling Guests of Geopolitics and Empire

Because this is part one of what is intended to be a multi-part series, I am going to focus on only a few of the guests of Geopolitics and Empire in part one. I’ll mostly be looking at some of the earlier guests as they appeared on Morić’s YouTube and Rumble channels. However, I would like to point out a fairly recent guest (2022) of Morić’s before looking at some of the older ones. That is American communist, turned Donbass resident and former Votosk Battalion soldier, Russell Bentley, who is now deceased under mysterious circumstances.26‘27‘28

In a 2022 interview with Bentley by Morić, the following exchange took place:29

I call the US, EU, NATO, I call them the Fourth Reich [Morić nods in apparent agreement with this statement] – Bentley

I would agree with you, I mean I’m not a leftist or communist, I don’t have sympathies for socialism, but I have been for 20 years calling the West the Fourth Reich, the North Atlantic Terrorist Organization…and the EU is a NAZI construct… -Morić

Russia launched the special military operation. I viewed it and still tend to view it as a self defense against NATO and the West, because as we mentioned…[Morić cites some documents alleging the West wants to balkanize Russia]…so I kind of viewed what Russia did was a pre-emptive self defense…how do you view the Special Military Operation and how it is going for Russia? -Morić

I previously said I was giving Morić the benefit of the doubt, meaning that I’m not calling him and have not called him a Russian asset or agent of influence. Even if Morić is not these things, he makes it clear he is my political enemy via his statements about the West. I’m a United States citizen, my family has been here since the early 1700’s, and we have multi-generational service to the United States. My family and I are part of the West. We recognize NATO as an essential military alliance to defend the West against the extant communist bloc of which Russia is a part of.

I think it is important to point out Morić’s use of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s term Special Military Operation (SMO). No one I know, or that I have come across that is respected, uses SMO to refer to the full scale invasion of sovereign Ukraine. It reeks of Soviet era propaganda covering for what is a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. A massive military column in the early days of the invasion poured out from Russian allied Belarus heading for the Ukrainian capital city of Kyiv seeking to decapitate to Ukrainian government. Fortunately, the horrible logistics, poor planning, and stiff resistance of the Ukrainians stopped the attempted decapitation on the far outskirts of Kyiv. Calling the full scale invasion of Ukraine a SMO is aiding the Russian government’s active measures campaign. There really isn’t an excuse for this that I can think of.

We will now turn our attention to some of the other guests of Geopolitics and Empire. I’m going to list them out along with my concerns about them.

Daniel Estulin (2nd & 28th program on Morić’s Rumble Channel)30

Estulin was born in the Soviet Union and left as a young man. He claims grandfather was KGB.31 He was a Russian State Television host (RT is used to carry out active measures directed by the Russian government),32‘33 and he appeared on Alex Jones’s pro-Russian disinformation program. Estulin is part of the Marxist LaRouche circle.34 Estulin met with communist leader Fidel Castro at the invitation of Castro.35

Jeff J. Brown (24th, etc., program on Morić’s Rumble Channel)36‘37

Brown is a Russian state funded Sputnik News contributor (Sputnik is used to carry out active measures directed by the Russian government),38‘39‘40 and he was a Saker contributor (owned by a Russian that calls the full scale invasion of Ukraine a “SMO”).41‘42 Brown is also a Pro-Maoist/Marxist/Communist and propaganda mouthpiece of Xi via his radio program China Rising. Brown is or was a resident in communist China.43

F. William Engdahl (4th program on Morić’s Rumble Channel)44

Engdahl is a member of the Marxist LaRouche movement and (former?) LaRouche Executive Intelligence Review publication intelligence director.45 Engdahl produced 400+ articles featured at Global Research (making him integral to that website) owned by Michel Chossudovsky.46 Chossudovsky is the son of a Soviet Union aide to the UN.47 He republished Russian Military Intelligence (GRU) writers and partnered with Russian Foreign Intelligence (SVR) and Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Front Organizations.48 Chossudovsky also met with communist leader Fidel Castro.49‘50 Chossudovsky is linked to KGB asset Aleksandr Dugin’s circle like Engdahl via their membership on the scientific committee for the Italian journal Geopolitica (founded by Dugin associate Tiberio Graziani who is a supreme council member of Dugin’s Eurasia Moevement).51‘52 Engdahl is also on Dugin’s Eurasia Rivista Di Studi Geopolitici group,53 and he previously attended a conference with Dugin.54 Engdahl is also a contributor to Russian state owned RT (RT is used to carry out active measures directed by the Russian government).55

Filip Kovačević ( 7th,18th, 27th, etc. program on Morić’s Rumble Channel)56

Associated with the ideas of Marxist Herbert Marcuse.57 One of his email addresses included his initials FK followed by 1917 indicating he supported the 1917 communist revolution in Russia led by Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks.58 Kovačević was listed as a senior analyst and commentator at NewsBud which was established by Sibel Edmonds.59‘60 Edmonds is a featured author on Russian Intelligence linked GlobalResearch,61 and she gave multiple interviews to pro-Russian, Marxist, LaRouche oriented InfoWars (InfoWars is deeply intertwined in a crypto-communist, pro-Russian ecosystem supporting their active measures).62

Edmonds selected, among others, the following staff for NewsBud all of which are featured on Russian intelligence linked Global Research:63

• Kurt Nimmo, former InfoWars editor, selected for the senior producer position at Newsbud. Nimmo, before his InfoWars employment, penned 100+ articles to leftist run Counterpunch which was co-edited at the time by Marxist Alexander Cockburn (his father was British Communist Party).64‘65‘66‘67 Nimmo also penned 50 articles to Russian intelligence linked Global Research before being editor at InfoWars and penned a total of 300+ articles that were featured on Global Research over his career.68

• Peter Lee Newsbud Senior Analyst & Commentator71

It shouldn’t be a surprise given Filip’s company at Newsbud that he was against Montenegro joining NATO. He founded the Movement for Neutrality of Montenegro.73 In an interview with the leftist LeftEast publication he stated that on the advisory board of his group were Immanuel Wallerstein (Marxist and Frantz Fanon influenced scholar), Michael Parenti (Marxist & featured Global Research author), Daniel Estulin (previously discussed), Marko Vidojković and Damir Nikšić (anarchist) while he also received support from Noam Chomsky and Dennis Kucinich.74‘75‘76‘77

Note: a fellow researcher who suspects Filip might have recently turned away from some of his earlier beliefs suggested I point out that he has looked into Soviet operations against the West and produced a few good articles on the subject.78

Yves Engler (March 17, 2014 appearance on Morić’s Dissident Thinker YouTube channel)79

Engler has over 200 articles on Russian intelligence connected Global Research.80 23 articles of Engler’s can be found on antiwar.com which was founded by red diaper baby Eric Garris.81‘82 170+ articles of his are on leftist Counterpunch which was co-edited by Marxist Alexander Cockburn.83 150+ articles of his are on Z Network which was co-founded by former Students for a Democratic Society member and socialist writer Michael Albert.84‘85 Engler is also a contributor at Socialist Action Canada which calls for abolishing capitalism, establishing a socialist democracy, international socialism and a revolutionary party.86‘87

Russ Baker (appeared onMorić’s Dissident Thinker on YouTube in 2012)88

Baker appeared on pro-Russian Infowars multiple times.89 He was republished on Russian intelligence connected Global Research.90 He also appears on the Russian State funded RT website as well as Sputnik (both are used to carry out active measures by the Russian government).91 One of his RT interviews was with Oliver Stone’s son Sean Stone who is an associate of Aleksandr Dugin (I previously mentioned Dugin seeks to destroy the United States).

Paul Craig Roberts (appeared onMorić’s Dissident Thinker on YouTube in 2012)92

Paul Craig Roberts is a contributor to sanctioned Aleksandr Dugin’s Geopolitica website (also sanctioned), and he is also featured on Dugin’s associate’s, Konstantin Malofeev’s, website Katehon both of which are sanctioned.93‘94 It is worth noting that Katehon has two retired Russian intelligence colonel-generals on its advisory board: Leonid Reshetnikov (SVR) and Alexander Makarov (FSB).95

Roberts is also a contributor to Russian Foreign Intelligence tasked and communist run Strategic Culture Foundation.96‘97 Roberts appeared multiple times on pro-Russian InfoWars.98 He is also featured on the Greek publication Iskra (the name of Lenin’s publication).99‘100 He’s featured on Unz Review.101 He’s also an author at Russian intelligence connected Global Research.102 Roberts has many articles on AntiWar.com which was founded by red diaper baby Eric Garris.103 Roberts has been interviewed by Russian state funded RT and Sputnik (both are used to carry out active measures by the Russian government).104

In conclusion, and to recap, I have not called Morić a Russian asset or Russian agent of influence. I suggested my X audience look into his podcast, because it is a gold mine for anticommunist researchers in the respect that it is filled with anti-Western persons (many in disrepute) and more than a handful of people with relatively close connections to Russian intelligence and Russian state sponsored organizations.

When Morić has produced his response to part one of this planned multi-part series, I will post his response prominently at the top of this article so that people can see his viewpoint and thoughts on what I have said here.
